Course Description:
In the first semester, this dance course surveys the origins of dance and the history of Ballet from its beginnings in the French courts to its development of professional dance in America. Second semester will examine the birth of Modern Dance and the many different choreographers who have contributed to the art form’s vast range of styles.

Chapter Quiz's: Students will take a 10-20 question online quiz in class after each chapter is assigned.
Court Ballet Essays: Answer questions fully and completely. Reference content in articles, class lecture, class discussions, video viewings as applicable. Adhere to required page length specified in each assignment. Typed, double spaced with cover page, Times New Roman, 12 point font. Submit using the form below. Ballet Family Tree Group Project:
1. As a group you will create a Ballet History Family tree beginning with Louis the IV and ending with each member of the group. 2. All persons/events that relate to your family tree must be visually represented and labeled. 3. Each member of the group must be represented on the tree and connect themselves back to Louis XIV through individual research of their dance training 4. Personal research must be cohesively presented in an online presentation form. 5. The entire group must present their tree to the class. Download the Grading Rubric. |

Modern Choreography Group Project:
1. Each group will be assigned a Modern Dance Choreographer that we studied in class 2. Group will collaborate to choreograph a 2 minute dance in the style/philosophy of that choreographer (do not re-stage one of their dances) 3. The group will present their dance to the class with an explanation of how the assigned choreographer influenced your work. Download the Grading Rubric.
